Fall 2014 Update BACKPACKS!!!
As we start another school year be sure that your child's backpack fits properly and that they use both shoulder straps. The bottom of their backpack should rest at their low back. Carrying backpacks on one side can lead to muscle soreness/imbalance and possible injury. (See link below for additional information on backpack safety and other important health topics)
Spring 2015 Update Shoes!!!
As the warm weather approaches and the temptation to wear sandals and flip flops draws near, I’d like to point out the importance of foot wear to your child’s safety and physical performance.
As your child moves throughout their school environment and plays outside on pavement or playground structures it is very important that they have on supportive shoes with good traction. Sandals and especially flip flops are often slippery and do not provide support to their entire foot. If your child’s foot is able to move and slide around within a shoe, or the bottom of the shoe is slippery, they could be at risk for falls and/or ankle and knee injuries.
In addition your child’s physical performance is improved by having a stable base to work from. This stable base is important for all children, and especially for children with any type of motor difficulties. Sneakers are generally the best option.
Enjoy your Spring and Summer and be safe!
